Marie Curie, discovered radium and polonium and coined the term "radioactivity." She was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1903. In 1906 she became the first female Professor of General Physics at the Sorbonne. She won her second Nobel Prize, this one in Chemistry, in 1911. She is one of only four people in history to have received two Nobel Prizes. We like to think she would have loved our designs.
A science lab might be an unlikely source of inspiration for an activewear brand, but this is where our story begins. The digital prints found on our leggings, tops and sport bras are taken from our founder’s studies in medicine - these images have not only inspired Epidemia’s design direction but also the aspiration to encourage and support young women interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
As our good friend Marie Curie reminded us, “Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained.” We are at the very beginning of our mission supporting and encouraging women in the sciences, but we will persevere and we are confident our objective will be attained.
Epidemia Design's 2016 Commitment
Girlstart’s mission is to increase girls’ interest and engagement in STEM through innovative, nationally-recognized informal STEM education programs. We believe that the world’s greatest challenges need new, STEM-driven ideas and insights. But half of our population is discouraged from participating in STEM and creating those vital STEM innovations and insights. At Girlstart, we design and implement high quality, informal STEM education programs that inspire girls to transform our world.
Girlstart Summer Camps are week-long STEM programs for girls entering the 4th through 8thgrades. By the end of camp, 90% of Girlstart Summer Camp girls say, “I like science!” and “I feel I can be myself at Girlstart Summer Camp.”
Because our Camps ‘to Go’ are designed to reach girls who otherwise might never have access to high-quality STEM programming they are offered to girls at no cost. This summer, Girlstart will reach more than 700 girls through 28 camps. Epidemia Designs and other generous friends have funded approximately half of these campers! Thank you for sending girls to camp this summer!

Supporting Girls in STEM
Our future commitment.
We believe in walking the talk (or jogging the talk, whichever you prefer). In order to ensure that our product embodies our social commitment, we’re seeking to collaborate with mavericks and trailblazers within STEM, design and research to create an activewear collection that is the best on market. Sounds like something you or your organization would like to be a part of? Get in touch.
